Recently St Francis dressed up as characters from lots of different books as part of World Book Day! We had lots of fun – which characters can you spot from famous books in our class photo?
What is your favourite book and why?
Last Thursday, St Francis took part in ‘Do Something Funny For Money’ as part of Comic Relief. All the classes created their own performances which they showed to the rest of the school. We decided to play a song on the trumpets which we had learnt with Mr. Field. Here are some silly pictures we took on the day!
What was the favourite part of your day?
This week the prompt is five words that you must put into your piece of writing. This means you should use 105 words altogether. They are:
PIPE SWAM GREEN CAREFULLY HORSE
If you can, try to highlight the word so that your readers can see you have used them all.
This week the prompt deals with the sense of taste. It is:
…but it said ‘sweet’ on the wrapper…
Really use your imaginations and think what sort of story you can build around this prompt.
The prompt this week is five words, all of which need to be in your writing. It doesn’t matter what order they come in but they must all be there. The words are:
Sandwich Grey Miserable Hyena Climb
Remember to make your writing exciting and include correct punctuation! Try and experiment with different vocabulary or new grammar we have learnt in class!
On Tuesday, a swimming instructor from Eccleshill Swimming Pool came into Year 4 to tell us all about how to stay safe in the water. This was very important because if we do not know the do’s and don’ts then we could lose our lives! We also made posters which Miss Speake is entering into a competition for £60 of free swimming lessons!
Can anyone remember what we learnt from the talk?
Now, this week’s prompt is all about the sense of touch. It is:
…what was that I could feel?…
Make sure you think carefully about the tense – when did it happen? Check that the story makes sense and that your ideas link together.
Earlier this week, St Francis were lucky enough to have a real author called Miles Salter come to visit our school. Year 4 had a 25 minute slot where he talked about how fun and rewarding reading and writing can be!
Here are some pictures of our visit. Can anyone remember any tips Miles gave us to improve our reading and writing?
I hope you all had a wonderful festive season and are now ready to do some fabulous writing!!
The first prompt of 2015 is:
… as he started they…
You have 100 words to add to these 4 making 104 all together. Make a plan of what you want to write before you start and do read through your work to check it makes sense before you press ‘publish’.
